The most current news that I've seen, heard or read about My Bruce Springsteen:

July 30, 2010:A great big Yaay, as My Bruce Springsteen made a not totally unexpected club appearance last week at the Stone Pony and helped out Alejandro Escovedo...perform a couple of songs from Escovedos repertoire as well as a cover of the  Glimmer Twins Beast Of Burden (Happy Birthday Mick last week and Patti Scialfa yesterday, btw). There's a few videos making the scene click here to see one that is a nice stage right postion, practically catching the Boss Sweat

The Escovedo songs included Faith, click here to see that YouTube video. WFUV is playing this one regularly and finally there is also a clip of the pair performing Alejandro's non-commercial radio hit Always A Friend!  Not much else so far so this is the big Bruce news in the summer of 2010, thanks a lot guys!

There has been a lot of attention paid lately to a New Jersey band that is being attached to Bruce for me than geographical reasons. Click here to read about how these guys performed in Chicago a week or so ago, you'll be hearing more about them in the future.

Finally I decided to go into the way way back machine and dig out my old review from the tail end of the 2002/ 2003 Rising tour:

July 21, 2003 Giants Stadium New Jersey

OK, so this show was attended by the band of brothers, Ralph, Eddie & Nick Carulli with me as the honorary 4th bro’. As usual, my nerves were shot because I always want to arrive hours early while the brothers all want to arrive at the last possible minute. Guess who usually wins (hint, I’m badly outnumbered here). We did walk into the stadium after the start of the show but since the opening number was The Rising, I took it all in stride. It helped a lot that these tickets were all on the ground floor; I’d say that we were about 50 yards from the stage, over on the left side.

There were several highlights to this show, starting I would say with a great version of Trapped (oooh- yeah-eee-yeah-ah).  Continuing in the spirit of older songs being highlights, a great full band version of “For You” put most of the long time fans deep into nostalgia land.

Than “it” came, during the song called Mary's Place. The “it” being torrential downpours, which continued for the rest of the night. For those not familiar with the lyrics of Mary's Place there is a refrain during this great party song that repeats the phrase “Let it rain” and man did it ever! Bruce really stepped up and so did the band because rather than back off they just kept right on ripping like there was no tomorrow, because that’s how it rained the rest of the night!

Back to back highlights in the first encore were due to the introduction of original E Street Band drummer Vini Lopez, who played with the full band on Spirit In The Night  (all night!). When Max Weinberg rejoined, the band pulled out a relic from the “Tracks” compilation called Where The Bands Are”. This number set the tone for what wound up being a theme for the remainder of the stadium tour, that being performances of rarely or never before played live in concert songs.  More on this point to follow in future show recollections coming up.

Finally, the show wrapped up with Rosalita, Hungry Heart and “Dancing In The Dark”. If not the best of all of the 2002-03 shows I saw, than this was definitely in the top 3, what a great night!

This one was handy!

July 24, 2003 Giants Stadium New Jersey

This performance started with Downbound Train , from 1984’s Born In The USA album and this was also the last night of the July NJ shows. As such, everybody in the stadium seemed duly pumped up, despite an ongoing threat of more downpours.

Long time fans like myself were now being rewarded for attending multiple shows by Bruce, as he dusted off more and more relics as the tour started to wind down. Tonight’s highlight was a one-two punch from the Born To Run album. For the first time in nearly 30 years I saw the band perform Meeting Across The River , which is a personal favorite since the story is about a guy named Eddie (can you lend me a few bucks?) I nearly stained myself when this song segued into what is my number 1 Bruce song of all time, the classic Backstreets You could have put a fork in me for the rest of the tour by the time this song was over but no, not really.

Tonight also included a killer version of Kitty’s Back, back from the long ago year of 1973! As far as I’m concerned, this performance demonstrated that Bruce continues to be one of the most under-rated guitarists in rock and roll. The leads he played during the whirling dervish served up by the Viagra-taking, earth-quaking, butt-shaking, legendary ESB were truly a sight & sound to behold. And to think that the recent Rolling Stone magazine poll didn’t include Bruce in the top 100 rock guitarists of all time, UNBELIEVABLE!

The rain did hold off until the very end of the concert but as was the case in all of the NJ shows I attended, Luke, Bobby and myself hung out in the parking lot until about 1:00 am before heading back Across The River. Here’s a callout to Laura & Noel who were seated to our right around section 120 or so. A good ending to the first leg of the NJ stand!

July 23, 2010: At this time last summer, My Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band were in Mama Springsteen's homeland of Italia...and in fact, Roma! So in another slow Boss news week, let's head to the way back machine and revisit the 2009 Working On A Dream European tour!

July 20, 2009:OK so I wouldn't say that My Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band burned down Rome but they did tour debut...My City Of Ruins last night and also broke out with at least a Surprise or 2. A great start to the show with typical 1-2 start featuring Badlands and Out In The Street. Outlaw Pete made his usual appearance and there were a lot of happy folks treated to the classic She's The One.

Atlantic City is becoming a frequently played number since the European tour has kicked into high gear, giving the entire E Street Band the opportunity to really stretch things out musically. Lots of great musical requests following the musical interlude of Raise Your Hand before a whopping 7 song set that started with Hungry Heart and Pink Cadillac.  As for the surprises, well I sure hope to get the chance to see the Boss and crew perform Surprise Surprise when they return to America, lucky Romans!

Another surprise that is due to some less than pleasant social unrest in Europe is a repeat of 41 Shots before going for the throat with a big and WOAD tour standard main set wrap up of Lonesome Day followed by The Rising and TA DAH Born To Run. A really nice if not kind of special encore set started with the 2009 debut and first time in years with E Streeters, friends Romans and countrymen were treated to My City Of Ruins and for only the second performance this year a cover of You Can't Sit Down. AWESOME! Dancing In The Dark and Twist And Shout. have been closing out the concerts for the past few weeks so not much to complain about here folks.

Click here to see the entire set list from last night, click on the song titles for links to YouTube videos of Bruce!

July 19, 2009:After a 2 day rest for My Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band after performing at the...Festival des Vieilles Charrues on Thursday, I'm looking to see if Rome will burn after tonight's concert.  I sniffed around a bit this morning and found some Roma-related Boss tidbits and a really deep cut from the archives to get you in the mood for some Italian.

All The Way Home (Seeger Sessions)                         I'm On Fire (Solo 2005)

Leah (Solo 2005)

We're Having A Party (1978 with Southside and the Jukes, Roy and Miami Steve)

July 17, 2009:A really standard and by the books set from My Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band at the...Festival des Vieilles Charrues in Carhaix, France last night. No tour debuts so that means no additional one-off performances to report today. Click here to see the set list.

On the other hand, there are around 50 songs that the Boss has only performed one time during the Working On A Dream tour. Here is a graph that shows just a few of these great moments of 2009.

July 16, 2010: I was deep into the archives this past week when I found a 1976 readers poll and results from CREEM magazine and My Bruce Springsteen was prominently flagged by...the readers for a number of different reasons. In fact, you can count about a dozen reference to Bruce (and the Big Man too!) in these somewhat blurry scans from that great old rock & roll rag, three cheers for CREEM, hip hip hooray!

July 9, 2010: At this time last summer, My Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band were tearing through Europe and spent the 4th of July...in Frankfurt, Germany and on the  the 3rd the Band was in Munich. At that point in time, the Magic was nearly gone and the Dream was still hopeful.

July 9, 2009:Well Surprise Surprise indeed and not quite a tour debut but one of several treats as My Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band...gave a lot of everything for everybody last night in Herning Denmark. The performance of newer songs from the Working On A Dream album have been relatively restricted so the request late in the set last night is really a treat, WAY TO GO BOSS! So along with My Lucky Day, Outlaw Pete and the title cut, Surprise Surprise becomes a multi rather than one off performance from the last album.

A relatively infrequently played Candy's Room was a nice treat as was the now increasingly played Atlantic City since making a tour debut just a week ago. As usual,  getting a lot of sign requests and play last night has been Hungry Heart  from The River. Also getting increasing tour performance frequency was Rendezvous which is a the deep track from Tracks. Rounding out the request set was a European debut of Mony Mony and the B2R classic Thunder Road.

Finally, a good looking encore set that highlighted both Bobby Jean  and Rosalita, that is a lucky day I will say.  So if you want to see the entire set list from last night click here!

Now a couple of days off and some pretty high profile shows this weekend in Dublin. I think that, Tommy, Eddie V and the Big Dog crew are flying over so hopefully we'll get some pictures from the home town team. Here is Tom and Mike M in Dublin last year, on their way for some tea with the professor, Roy Bittan....

July 8, 2009:Judging by the emails I received from Great Danes Rey and Ilda, My Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band are going to get quite a reception tonight... in Denmark. There is a nice history of classic performances, even by a  solo Busking Bruce & my virtual friends have seen the Boss 4 times over the years. Rey sent the following YouTube video links  of the 2008  Copenhagen show.

Long Walk Home            Seven Nights To Rock

And in viewing these, I was reminded about some great HD videos from the recent Norway shows, you've gotta check these out too!

My Lucky Day     Out In The Street     Because The Night!      The Rising

July 6, 2009:That was more than a Viennese Hour and closer in fact to 3 hours that  My Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band...delivered in Austria last night. A rare show opener for the Working On A Dream tour that saw Badlands follow Jackson Cage (and Wiener Walz opening by Nils on squeezebox) as the first one-two punch of the evening, followed hard by Cover Me, My Lucky Day and Outlaw Pete. That means, to me at least, that a hectic pace was set and let down only for a few slower songs before the Boss kicked ass again and again! And we see Max is in the house for this holiday weekend show, coool!

By slower songs, I'm referring to Darkness On The Edge Of Town (click for footage of last night!) as a lead in to the request segment and boy did Bruce deliver on those. A great version of Growin' Up was a nice nostalgic touch that actually was an oldie bookend for last nights 4 requests. And as done before, pezdigruber has already posted one of a kind videos on You Tube. Here is a link to Darlington County and Seeds. Almost all of the video links at YouTube in today's posting are from pezdi, THANKS SO MUCH!

I had seen the first tour performances of Cover Me and Rendezvous from the floor at Nassau Coliseum (click here) but now the classic deep cut has been covered twice this year. Here are links now to the Vienna show for Cover Me & Rendezvous, compare and see which versions you like better.

I did not see Proud Mary get the E Street treatment in L.A. (this time) but you can click here to see the fan posted YouTube video, because that CCR classic also was performed for only they second time this year too. Click here to view the great catch pezdigruber made while rolling, rolling, rolling down the river last night!

And as predicted but following the Independence Day holiday instead of leading into it, there were more than a few lumps in the throat  last night for the tour debut (if not only performance this year) of 4th Of July, Asbury Park  (Sandy)  Wow, I think that this is only the second time now without the Man.....

Not to worry, a strong comeback and click here to see for yourself as Because The Night rocked the house yet again. Nils Lofgren can bee seen at his head spinning, string and knee bending best on this one, YEAH BABAY! A bring it down miniset was played last night with The River leading into the tour debut of Into The Fire, from The Rising. Yes, pezdi got that one too so click here to see this true 2009 rarity!

Finally, a SEVEN SONG ENCORE that premiered another deep cut,  but far far from home. I reckon that Jersey Girl had nearly everybody thinking about Patti Scialfa (not in the house because she is on guard at home). I think that in a few months time, this will be a show looked back upon as a summer of 2009 highlight.

Starting with Cadillac Ranch, the Jersey Girl debut that followed was then followed by Tenth Avenue Freeze Out. An "as usual" rollicking American Land is followed by another encore turn for Bobby Jean before wiping up the  floor with Dancing In The Dark and Twist And Shout. I must say, this was an exhausting update so just imagine how last nights audience must STILL BE FEELING!

After last nights killer show, a well deserved 2 days off and then it is up to Denmark for a concert on Wednesday at the MCH Arena.

Click here for the Vienna set list, click on the song titles for videos from that performance

July 2, 2010: At this time last summer, My Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band were tearing through Europe and spent the 4th of July...in Frankfurt, Germany and on the  the 3rd the Band was in Munich. At that point in time, the Magic was nearly gone and the Dream was still hopeful. What a difference a year makes.... Here's a reposting of last years holiday shows..

July 4, 2009:Some surprises last night in FRA with 2 tour debuts and some outstanding deep cuts from My Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band...in the Commerzbank Arena. A nice long show too as Bruce favored a lot of songs from The River and DOTEOT. Fully half of the first 10 songs performed last night were from those two albums including only the 3rd performance of The Ties That Bind and the tour debut of Factory, which was immediately followed by Something In The Night. I'D SAY SO! Also in the early moments of the show was a  burning version of Adam Raised A Cain, just awesome.

Requests? Check, got some good ones of those too. Three songs in this segment, 2 classic Boss songs including I'm Going Down and RAMROD! And in case you didn't know, although he has made Trapped his own, it is  a cover that was written by Jimmy Cliff about a thousand years ago but played last night for the sixth time on the WOAD tour.

Because The Night is sharing company with Bobby Jean as both of these songs are becoming frequent residents in the European set lists, no complaints there. And there was another tour debut before the big wrap up and encore, back to The River for Point Blank, wow!

Speaking of Bobby Jean, it's is becoming evident that Land Of Hope And Dreams is what has been dropped to make room for BJ, otherwise a nice encore set that included Jungleland and a big blowout version of Twist And Shout. musta been exhausting for band and fans alike!

I was a little surprised that Sandy wasn't there but I guess this might be a little tough on the band but also thought that Born In The USA was a possibility, you never know though with Bruce. A day off for Independence Day before a stadium show tomorrow in Vienna. Click here to see the set list from last night .

HAPPY JULY FOURTH!

July 3, 2009:Wow, a Lucky Day as well as a couple of really nice debuts in Munich last nicht as My Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band performed...at the Olympia Stadium. Back in the set in the number 2 slot from the latest album was My Lucky Day and following Outlaw Pete, there was that feeling of the Spirit In The Night. After months of closing out the down times segment with The Ghost Of Tom Joad, occasionally replaced by Youngstown, the Boss has plugged Atlantic City into that slot for the second show in a row, just a shake up for Nils is my guess.

Seven Nights To Rock had only been performed once before on the WOAD tour but made for a nice opener of the requests and was then followed by back to back tour debuts. Hitting one out of the stadium, I'm looking for any footage of what may be the first time in front of an audience performance of the Roy Orbison classic Oh Pretty Woman. That followed an original song  from the mid -90's Greatest Hits album, I'm talking about This Hard Land people.

A couple of trends seem to be developing too, as Bruce tacked Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out onto Born To Run to end the main set. Typically the sets have been ending with B2R but this is another back to back deviation from the norm. Also a trend in the making is another European performance of Bobby Jean, hey that sounds great to me! And for all of those old school fans, always a treat for the Mitch Ryder classic Detroit Medley!
